LINEBROOK
Linebrook parish in the northwestern part of the town was called by the old people as Firetown. There are two stories as to why it was called Firetown. The one I always heard was because the people burned peat and it made so much smoke that it hung over the whole parish. There was always an old myth about the Firetown Navy Yard where they had a brick ship and they used to buy up old cellar holes and wells and cut them up into post holes and send them out west to fence in the cattle ranches.
Leslie Road in Linebrook is of much interest but little known. Her is a good tree shaded country road and you will see a tablet commemorating the site of the first Linebrook Church and the big rock called Pulpit Rock where Parson Whitefield preached to large congregation.
