LAIGHTON, John, is one of Major Denison's subscribers, 1648, when the name is spelt Layton . He was constable, 1663; was appointed to layout Castle Neck, 1665. He had a share in Plum Island , &c., in behalf of Mary Jewett, in 1664; tithingman, 1677; commoner, 1678: voter in town affairs, 1679.

His will is dated March 14, 1693 . In it is mentioned his wife, Pennell; cousin John Laighton of Rowley ; Thomas Snell, formerly his servant, Mary Newmarsh, wife of Thomas Newmarsh ; and the children of his brother, Richard Laighton, deceased, viz., Ezekiel. Mary, Sarah, whom he makes his residuary legatees.

He was one of the soldiers to the Indians, 1643.

John Laighton 2, probably "cousin" of the above John, died about March 27, 1694, when his will was presented for proof by his son, John 3, executor. In this will the name is spelled Laighton.  Robert Lord, under date of April, 1683, charges John Leighton for proving and recording his will : will & inventory, 5 shillings.
